Two companies regularly found assaulting the ears of poor viewers in advertising breaks are WeBuyAnyCar.com and GoCompare.com. These miscreants blast their noisy one liners out at top volume, vying to repeat the name of their website as many times possible in 30 seconds.
Whilst effective at upping name recognition and getting a song stuck in the viewers head, the adverts can’t have helped with public perception of the companies.
Which is why this bit of PR from Go Compare is a bit clever. The company has vandalised their own billboard campaign, putting up screens with graffiti scrawled over them and even producing a video showing the normally mild mannered Sue Barker shooting their signature Italian Opera singer (and hate figure to some) with a rocket launcher.
Using the ad campaign as a hook they have bagged themselves plenty of free PR online and in national newspapers. It seems Sue Barker is going viral for all the right reasons!
