Trouble in paradise
In Guardianworld they have always dreamt of making Britain more European, in particular through higher public spending. This would be used to make us all more equal, and more civilised. There would be a cafe culture, high-speed trains and the working class would embrace the Mediterranean diet. (The last I actually heard advocated at a serious public health conference.) This would all be enabled and maintained through electoral reform, thanks to which well-meaning progressive coalitions would plan our future with unprecedented reason.
